Migmar

Meet Migmar, a dedicated mountaineer, guide, and educator born in the shadow of the Himalayas. With a deep respect for both nature and his cultural heritage, Migmar has dedicated his life to the mountains—both by chasing his own dream of climbing the world’s 14 highest peaks (of which he has already completed 8) and by helping others realize their mountain dreams. When he isn’t climbing, he keeps Sherpa traditions alive through music and advocates for sustainable practices in the outdoors.

The quick ones

Where in the world are you right now?
I am currently in Nepal, spending most of my time in the mountains where I live, teach, and guide.

Hometown?
I was born and raised in Himalayas, a small village in Dolakha district, Nepal.

What’s your main discipline?

I am a mountaineer, outdoor educator, and guide. I teach both basic and advanced mountaineering courses at the Khumbu Climbing Center, and I also guide climbers on expeditions, helping them reach their lifelong dream of standing on the world’s highest peaks.

What other interests do you have?
Yes, I enjoy playing musical instruments and singing. I especially value playing the traditional Sherpa instrument called the dramyen, which keeps me connected to my culture and heritage. Traveling and spending time outdoors have also been lifelong passions of mine.

Let's connect:

What drives you? Tell us about your journey and what ignited your passion.

Growing up in Khuthame, I had to walk long distances to school every day, which built my
endurance and my connection with nature from a young age. Over time, the mountains became my passion, not only as a climber but as a guide and teacher. What drives me most is helping others whether it’s a young student learning mountaineering for the first time or a climber chasing their lifelong dream of summiting a great peak. Sharing that journey, seeing their joy and pride, is as
meaningful to me as reaching a summit myself.

Your most unforgettable moment?
For me, it was reaching the summit of Mount Everest, standing above the world with the Himalayan range unfolding endlessly in every direction. In that moment, I was filled with an overwhelming blend of humility and gratitude.

What’s the next big adventure? What dream are you chasing?
My dream is to complete climbing all 14 of the world’s highest peaks above 8,000 meters. I’ve already summited 8 of them, and I’m determined to continue. At the same time, I want to keep guiding people from around the world, helping them turn their dream of standing on these mountains into reality. Beyond climbing, I also dream of traveling the world, experiencing different
cultures, and sharing my story with people beyond the Himalayas.

Why are you and LOOW a perfect match?
LOOW and I share the same philosophy of simplicity, endurance, and harmony with nature. Just as LOOW gear is built for resilience and reliability, my life in the mountains requires trust in what I
carry. That shared value makes us a natural fit.

Your indispensable piece of LOOW gear—and why?
For me, it would be a high-quality base layer. In the extreme conditions of high altitude, dependable gear that provides warmth and comfort can mean the difference between safety and danger for me
and the climbers I guide.

A personal mantra or philosophy you live by? “Respect the mountains, respect the people.” Climbing is not just about reaching summits it’s about respecting the environment, honoring my culture, and supporting others in achieving their dreams.

Anything else we should know?
Mountaineering has given me unforgettable experiences, but it has also given me a responsibility. I want to use my journey not only to climb mountains but to inspire sustainable climbing practices, preserve cultural traditions like music, and continue guiding and teaching others so they too can
achieve their lifelong dreams in the mountains.
