A man and a woman in LOOW merino T-shirts

T-shirt guide

Which LOOW T-shirt is right for you?

Our T-shirts come in six merino fabrics. The number is the fabric weight in grams per square metre: the lower, the lighter. Here is what each fabric is for, and the specs behind it.

  • If you are choosing your first LOOW
  • If you want to know what the numbers mean
  • If you are deciding between light and warm

The short version

  • 135 is the starting pointLight, soft and our bestseller. Good indoors, on warm days and as a base layer.
  • 220 when you want warmthTwo-ply of the same yarn, heavier than 135. For cold days and a heavier feel.
  • 160U for a softer feelUltrafine 15.5 micron fibres and the softest finish we make. For dressier occasions.

Fabric by fabric

135 is a good starting point for a light T-shirt. Choose 220 for more warmth or 160U for a softer feel. Compare the options below.

Find your size. Unused items have a 365-day return policy. WOOL Club members can also wear and wash for 30 days. See the terms.

  1. 135: light and airy

Our lightest fabric and the most popular. It feels light and airy on the body and is the fabric we recommend for a first LOOW. Slim fit; size up if you prefer a looser T-shirt.

  2. 160U Ultrafine: the finest

Ultrafine 15.5 micron merino in a two-ply yarn. Finer fibres and a thinner yarn give the softest and most luxurious fabric we make, with a clean finish under a blazer.

  3. 170P Airknit®: airy and stretchy

A pique knit with 4-way stretch and a relaxed look. Worn alone on warm days, air flows through the fabric. With a layer over it, the structure traps air and insulates. Looser fit than our other T-shirts.

  4. 180 Enforced: built for wear

Merino reinforced with nylon and a little elastane for resilience, durability and fit. For high activity and the days that are hard on a T-shirt.

  5. 200: the white one

A two-ply fabric like the 220, bleached to a near white with a warm undertone. It usually passes as white, but is slightly sheer over dark clothes.

  6. 220: dense and warm

Two yarns from the 135 series spun together into a fabric heavier than 135. A formal look, a nice drape and the warmth for cold days and skiing.

What do 135, 160 and 220 mean?

The numbers are the fabric weight in grams per square metre. 135 is thin and light, 160 Ultrafine is a finer, slightly heavier quality, and 220 is heavier and warmer. All are merino wool. Compare them in the T-shirt guide.

Which T-shirt should I start with?

135. It is light, soft and works indoors, on warm days and as a base layer. Choose 220 if you prefer a heavier, warmer fabric. See our first-shirt recommendation.

What is the difference between superfine and ultrafine?

The fibre thickness. Our superfine fabrics use 17.5 micron fibres; the 160U Ultrafine uses 15.5 micron. Finer fibres feel softer against the skin.

Do the T-shirts fit the same?

No. 135 is slim, 220 is slightly wider, and Airknit is looser. Use the size guide on each product page and compare with a T-shirt that fits you well.

Which size should I choose?

Use the size guide on the product page. Some models use unisex sizes 1-10. Where garment measurements are provided, compare with clothing that fits you well. All guides are collected on the size guides page.

How often do I need to wash it?

Merino wool does not develop odour as quickly as many other fabrics. Often, airing a T-shirt overnight is enough between wears. When it needs a wash, follow our care guide.

Does merino wool itch?

Merino wool has finer fibres than coarse wool. They bend easily against your skin, so the fabric feels soft and supple. We select fine merino wool for our clothes so you can wear them directly on the skin.

Can I try the clothes and return them?

WOOL Club members can try clothing for 30 days, including wearing and washing. Unused items have a 365-day return policy. Returns and exchanges are free from Denmark and the EU. See our return terms.
